Everything dug up at once

There is vast parallel construction going on in Jerusalem. There is construction for the light rail projects and their expansion. There is unfettered high-rise construction. It is all happening all at once.

The most basic premises of decent planning seem to have gone completely out of the window.

My wife and I have a thirteen-month-old son. You have main thoroughfares that literally just end. There is no signage. There is no centralised mechanism of notification.

That last point is the one I keep coming back to. It is not the disruption itself — a city that is building a light rail network is going to be disrupted, and I would rather it were built than not. It is that there is nowhere to find out. No single place that says which road is closed this week, for how long, and what the alternative is. You discover it by walking into it, and with a pushchair you discover it late.
